The Meeting of the Moms!

Last week our mothers met for the first time! We drove from Illinois to Nebraska with Chris J.'s mother. It was a long drive -- about 12 hours with all the little stops we made along the way. We got to Chris M.'s mother's place around 9 at night. She was excited to see us, and she and Chris J.'s mom talked for several hours after we got there.

The four of us spent the next day together. After a fairly lazy morning spent playing with Mrs.M's golden retriever Bailey, we went for a ride, with Chris M. taking Mrs.J. to various sites from his childhood -- like his elementary and high schools, the church he went to, the store where he had his first job as a teenager, and the house he grew up in.

Later in the day, Mrs.M. was nice enough to make dinner for everyone -- a nice chicken dish with rice and broccoli. Chris M. said he had it a lot growing up, and it's one of his favorites. After supper, Mrs.M. surprised us by taking out an old video of Chris.M. playing the piano in high school, and an even older tape of him in a play in elementary school. Then we wound up watching a recording of Chris J. in a play in high school. We both felt slightly embarrased, of course, but our moms both wanted to see the tapes, so we went along with it!

The next morning, we took Mrs.J to the airport so she could fly home, and we stayed with Mrs.M for another few days. We actually did quite a bit of yard work for her, like spreading mulch, as well as some household chores -- Chris M. is especially handy with that sort of thing!

Before long, though, it was time to depart -- and now we're happy to be home in Maryland!
